Can't connect to OpenVPN on phone via wifi though it works on PC

I set up an OpenVPN on my VPS using this tutorial: Link. And I copied the Client config file over to my phone.

It works great so far but currently I'm in a hotel and using the hotel wifi. On my Laptop everything works great, but on my phone it says “Waiting for server“ when I try to connect, then it gives a connection timeout error. Then again using the mobile data on my phone the VPN connects and works fine.

I'm guessing it's a problem with the wifi itself but why would it work on my Laptop through the same Wifi but not on my phone?

Maybe the hotel WiFi only allows one network client per room .. ask them about it.

No I can connect to the wifi and use it on both my laptop and phone just fine. Only thing that doesn't work is connecting to the VPN on my phone, no matter if my laptop is connected to it or not.

You need to check your server log for connection attempts.
