I was just testing an openVPN server for a friend, and when I was importing his server, it prompted me that I had to lock down my phone with a security pattern/pin. So I did. After I removed his VPN, and uninstalled the app, I am unable to select "None, Swipe, or Face Unlock" as these settings were disabled by openVPN.
As long as a VPN is installed on the device, these security settings are always disabled, however, I removed the VPNs from openVPN, and even tried clearing the app data + cache + uninstalling yet I am still unable to select the "None,Swipe, Face unlock" settings.
How do I fix this?

ahh, what a hassle.
Settings -> Security -> Clear all credentials at the bottom works.
Problem solved.
