Community vs. Server Downloads

Post by HTgeek » Mon Jul 23, 2018 12:40 pm

Greetings All.

Would someone please explain why the OpenVPN v2 community downloads page and server downloads page host different versions of OpenVPN (v2.4.6 on the Community DL page, and v2.5.2 on the Server downloads page)?

I find it confusing that latest v2 stable version (2.5.2) is provided in the installer packages on the Server web page (https://openvpn.net/index.php/access-se ... rview.html), while the previous stable build (2.4.6) is provided on the Community web page (https://openvpn.net/index.php/download/ ... loads.html).

And of course, there's the 2.5.2 release announcement here: https://docs.openvpn.net/openvpn-access ... -released/

Is this an oversight that hasn't been corrected for over 2 months now? Or is there a distinction between Access Server version vs. Community version that I'm not aware of? I haven't found any information on the OpenVPN site or this forum that explains whether or not there is a difference, and if so what it is.
