Need help setting up VPN; have read HOWTO

Post by Bobbie » Sat Feb 14, 2015 6:34 am

I am trying to set up a VPN for the first time. WinXP Pro SP3. I use a hardwired DLink router. Avast antivirus.
I want only a single VPN at the moment, maybe later more. I don't want the static simple version for security reasons as stated.
The use of it is just for me.
In one of the other recent posts someone asked if it was easy to do this setup and the reply was yes. I find it hard to believe, with pages of instructions I can barely understand in the HOWTO. I have poked around the http://openvpn.net site looking for help with setup instructions and examples, but nothing that makes it "easy".
I tried to get to Scott Beatty's article but his site would not open.

So far I have
-C:\Program Files\OpenVPN with 12 files in it (bin config etc, and four vpnbook files and the icon and uninstall )
-C:\Program Files\OpenVPN Technologies which is empty.

I used command prompt to start the openvpn myconfig.ovpn and saw it in task manager.
Beyond this I'm not sure what to do. Probably more needs to be installed.
Any help is appreciated. Even if you point me to an easier help file for setup.

Waiting for a reply. Hope someone will be able to help me with setup.
I hope I have not violated any rules here. Noticed the locked thread about commercial products but didn't know about that earlier.
If I have included commercial products please let me know.
I wanted to PM an admin or mod for help with the board but could not figure out how to do that. (NOT for help answering my OP.)
