install OpenVPN client gateway on router?

Hello,
I am running OPENVPN-AS on AWS. I have a auto-connect client gateway running on premise (on a Windows machine), and remote users can access the on premise LAN through this gateway.
I and googled and searched but did not find a clear answer: it is possible to run the auto-connect client gateway directly on a router? It seems ASUS can do that, but I am not sure it will work with OpenVPN-as...
