License question

Post by nutmix » Mon Feb 03, 2020 12:43 pm

Hi, I thought openvpn was open source so didnt need a license.
I installed the openvpn server through linode one click app, but it only comes with a 2 user license.
There might be 3 or 4 of us using it, but probably not at the same time.
I have looked though the site but dont know if I need to pay for a license or not, seeing as I am hosting it myself at linode. Also, the license page says minimum of 10 licenses, but I only want an additional 2 or 3 users.
Lastly, the license is by "device". What does this mean? E.g. If I access the VPN one day from my mac, and the next from my pc, which are different devices, I need two licenses, even though I only use one or the other? If so, using openvpn SW looks pretty expensive unfortunately.

Any help appreciated.

You installed the commercial version, OpenVPN Access Server.
The howto for open source version is here:
