Offsite laptops stalling on Welcome screen

Hello all,

I need some help tracking this problem down.

I have an Access Server running 2.7.4

We have about 15 client laptops that now are mostly offsite all the time. The problem we are having is when logging on remotely, I think only after a reboot, we get a hang on the Win10 Welcome screen. This doesn't happen every time, but when it does it can hang for 12 hours+. Only solution is to hard shutdown the laptop and hope it doesn't hang again after the reboot.

I just rebuilt a laptop that I was completely unable to log in on other than in Safe Mode. I loaded the OpenVPN client. Conntected to the server and was able to log in and out of several accounts, no problem. Then I rebooted and got the hang. It's either a networking thing or there's a Win update that installed that caused the problem.

It seems that there has been a networking change with Win10 maybe 1903 and 1909 where we often see the globe icon that says it's connected but no internet. However, the machine will have internet and the connect to the server in the main office. Also, when I'm getting the login issue, if I boot into Safe-mode with Networking, running ipconfig in a cmd prompt hangs after listing the machine info. None of the adapter info will load.

Any thoughts on what may be causing this?

Thanks,

Hello,

we had a similar issue and solved it by disabling Windows 10 DnsCache-Service in Registry:
HKLM - System - CurrentControlSet - Services - Dnscache

Change attribute Start to value 4. That solved our login problems, but sometimes Windows 10 still reports that the PC has no internet connection, but we are able to access the internet.

We would like to get rid of disabling DnsCache as it causes several other issues (Windows 10 store not working, servers not accessible over VPN), but we can't work around the login problem when enbabling DnsCache again.

Any suggestions would be highly appreciated.

Thanks and best regards
Daniel
