windows networking requires manual metric set

Hello,
I inherited this openvpn setup from a previous employee. Every time we setup a new VPN user we have to set the metric manually on the windows adapters in order for company DNS to resolve. Tap adapter lowest metric, then lan, then wlan adapters. It doesn't seem like this shouldn't be necessary. This is new to me so please be patient. We are on v 2.5.2 (behind I know).

What can I check to make this easier for us?
