Routing only DNS through Access Server

Post by JakePeralta » Sat Sep 21, 2019 8:44 pm

Hello!

I'm trying to route only my DNS traffic through the Access server, as I'm trying to run ad-blocking from the VPS that's running Access Server. I've attempted disabling "Should client Internet traffic be routed through the VPN?" while simultaneously enabling "Have clients use specific DNS servers" with no success.

I understand I might be able to get this to work by commenting out the following lines:

from
# push "redirect-gateway def1 bypass-dhcp"

and from /etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf:
/etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf

The problem is that I can't find these files on the server Access Server is installed on.

I think you're confusing directives for the open source version of OpenVPN with the Access Server commercial edition of OpenVPN.

In Access Server, if you push a DNS server, but you disable access to the Internet, you may inadvertently be closing off access to the DNS server. You might need to specify access to that DNS server using the NAT method.
