Which distro is "recommended" for OVPNAS?

Which distro is "recommended" for OVPNAS?

I have to (re)build some old Ubuntu14 access servers and want to know which distro is considered "best" (most stable, least amount of problems etc) for deploying OVPNAS these days? I am going to assume Ubuntu18 since their virtual appliance is based on it but just would like to hear some opinions or confirmation, thank you

Yep, Ubuntu18. And then the LTS version, server, minimal install, no GUI.
I'm still alive, just posting under the openvpn_inc alias now as part of a larger group.
