New client installed. Old config does no longer work.

In our company we have an old OpenVPN server. I installed OpenVPN on the laptops of the user and this works fine. One of the users received an installation package from a customer with a newer version of OpenVPN. Now the old installation does not seem to work anymore. What I mean is that, If I rightclick the old config file and try to connect then there is no connection. My question is if it is possible to use the old version and the new version together. Is it possible to make it compatible?
