openvpn-password

Post by bernd67 » Wed Sep 13, 2017 10:59 am

hello forum,

i use openvpn to connect from client 1 location 1 to 2 in 2..
its working since month without problems.
i know that i set a password in creation for key creation using scripts but lost password..

questions:
when password is needed.. and for what?
normally its enough to copy the config folder or key file and all fine.. to a new pc..?

if i want to setup a new password, what should i do, possible to recover?
if not possible..
if i want to create a new key file.. can i backup old ones on 1 and 2 just in case and replace if sth goes wrong?
or is there a way to keep old key file / config files and connection and add a second config file and change to the new one if all is updated and maybe tested?

Is there a link to how to create a new key file?

thx for info

the password is used for encrypting/decrypting your private key so that if somebody gets his hands on your key he/she would not be able to use it without the password.
if you lost your password there is no way to recover it which means your key-pair is not usable anymore , so generate a new one (client key-pair) using the same script (easyrsa most likely)
