OpenVPN authentication using keycloak

Is it possible to delegate the authentication of users to Keycloak? Ideally, we want a system that needs the least amount of hardware configuration. We have been looking into PAM based authentication for such a use case, but have been unable to get OpenVPN to integrate with Keycloak.
LDAP based authentication would need a dedicated LDAP server with user federation on the Keycloak side of things. We wish to avoid this (not completely reject it).
