OpenVPN behind router - Adding Route

Post by bigAlNZ » Mon Jul 05, 2021 5:06 am

I am stuck dealing with a cheap home based modem Huawei HG659.

I have port forwarded to the VPN server behind the HG659 and can connect ok. I want to used routed but the screen for static routes on the HG659 looks like this:

The bit that confuses me is the interface selected only lets you select USB (fiber) or ADSL) - only the WAN interfaces.

Anyone tried to setup a route with one of these cheap modems before? Otherwise I go NAT.

You didn't say what you were hoping to be able to reach through the VPN. But I guess you're saying that the router is not giving you the option to use your LAN interface? Did you try Huawei documentation, support or forums? I'd also just try both options and see if anything works.

BTW you really should get that off of 192.168.1.1, or you will find you have lots of trouble connecting from hotspots. :)

Good luck, rob0
