port 443 open with vpn functioning?

Post by sonic » Wed Sep 02, 2020 11:27 pm

Hi all...
I am brand new here
Running WIN 10 Pro on desk top with Surfshark vpn service
I have set up OpenVPN on my router... however I have just run an external port scan and found that port 443 is open.. My understanding is that port 443 must remain open to allow the vpn to function. However, my concern is that if I can run a scan and find open ports on my router then a hacker sniffing around could very easily see that the port is open and would leave me vulnerable to attack!
Can anyone tell me is this a security risk and if so is there a solution?
Many thanks
sonic

The only port you need to open is the port you use for OpenVPN -- Default UDP 1194.
