How do I force only 1 application to use the VPN?

I have tried route-noexec and route-nopull but then nothing will use the VPN because I can't for the life of me get a damn route of any kind to go to the damn VPN.

I have tried the def1 tag in the config but then nothing works at all I just get a blank window when trying to connect.

I am really beginning to hate OpenVPN. It should not be this damn hard! It utterly ignores metrics or any of the standard goddamn rules for networking and TCP/IP. I have used many other VPN products in the past and never had this kind of trouble!
