OpenVPN Breaks NNTP Connection

Post by Revvie Quar » Sun Sep 17, 2017 11:28 pm

Hi all,

Running Win10 Pro x64, OpenVPN 2.4.3, TAP-Windows Provider V9 (driver version 9.0.0.21), Thunderbird 52.3.0

Connecting to, say, vpnbook-us1-udp25000, seems to kill NNTP connections to both news.grc.com and news.mozilla.org,

For news.grc.com, I get this when I have Security Settings: None, and selected port 119:

"Cannot connect to NNTP server 4.79.142.203 (4.79.142.203:119), connect error 10060"
(Same with news.mozilla.org)

When I change Security Settings to TLS/SSL, port 563, I get no notice at all, but no message downloads, either.

When I disconnect from OpenVPN and there are no messages, I get "there are no new messages on the server"

Is there some setting I'm missing? I confess, I'm pretty new to all this but was hoping OpenVPN would work out of the box.
