How to block streaming services like youtube, netflix

kdegraaf

Hi all,

My VPN is working fine, everyone is now working from home and performance is good.
But to ensure no one is going to use to much bandwidth I want to block streaming services like Youtube and Netflix.

Is it possible to do this?

Thanks, Klaas

Pippin

If you do not use --redirect-gateway then there would be no need for blocking.

Hi Pippin,

I'm using that because a lot of servers that we use are white listed only for the IP of the office.
We don't want to add white listing for the private IP address of our employees.

You need to learn how openvpn and routing works in order to do your job properly.

See the Howto.

This is surely part of your job and you ought to know already.

I can teach you for a reasonable fee, this does not seem unreasonable.

Well, we are just a small company. We don't have a dedicated network administrator.
I was just happy that I got OpenVPN to work and I was hoping to find some help here.
It is called the support forum right?

So is there a way to change my config so that traffic to a certain server is also routed through VPN? (when I turn off redirect gateway)

And I am a volunteer .. you can encourage us to help by offering a financial incentive.

route IP

If you read the documentation this is easy to find.

TinCanTech wrote route IP

Thanks I'm going to check that

Hi there. Interesting thread. I have another question, does OpenVpn allows to visit those platforms such as Youtube, Netflix and other. I have heard that some VPNs don't.
