ECDSA Certificate

Hello,
Does the current version of OpenVPN Connect (Android) support certificates that are generated as ECDSA? I got around an error message parsing the CA root certificate with a special ec parameter in openssl generation but now I am getting an error message about no shared cipher suites.
I found a thread on here that says "this feature is not supported by mbed tls". Is that currently the situation and my problem? I have scoured the internet trying to figure out whether or not I am wasting my time.
I can post more information if necessary but my openvpn implementation works just fine when I don't use ECDSA certificates.
