unc/samba over openvpn tap vpn

so, i've got my routher (rt-ac66u running merlin asuswrt) running an openvpn server. now, it's all been set up very nice and neat so that you click some checkboxes, apply and export your ovpn. in order to use the tap device on andriod without root, i use openvpn client (the only one that supports tap w/o root) the issue that i am seeing is that i am trying to access samba shares in kodi via PVR wmc. I succesfully connect to my server, even able go so far as to download the channel list and programming guide, but i cannot play my recordings because i am unable to access unc/smb shares.

there is nothing under custom configuration, as near as i can tell. any advice?
