W7Home and W10Home clients

Post by lawrieboarer » Tue Mar 28, 2017 8:44 am

Dear Users,

We have an OpenVPN gateway in Rwanda that permits us in the UK to access our NGO accounts system. For some reason we can only connect using a W7Pro laptop and not W7Home or W10Home. Has anybody experienced this type of problem? The 'Home' client machines connect via VPN but are not able to access computers on the host network. From a W7Pro computer I can Ping a computer on the network and I can connect using Remote Desk top.

Any suggestions on how to debug this would be appreciated.

Are any of your networks 192.168.0.0/24 or 192.168.1.0/24 ?

I believe only Pro version can do this type of activity.

Dear Tim
The UK client was on 192.168.0.x with 255.255.255.0
The Rwandan VPN was on a public IP x.x.x.x:1194
The VPN gave us 10.250.21.14
I could then ping 10.250.10.10 from W7 pro but not W7 Home

Dear Ben
Confirms my guess. Where may I find this in the documentation please?

Don't be giving out your server public IP to strangers on the internet .. good grief

Then something is wrong with W7Home.

Well. you have to read the installation file of Pro version and Home. Compare the two OS features and then do the installation. You can google the difference too.

Obviously it had nothing to do with OpenVPN but the Windows version.
