[SOLVED] TAP virtual adapter in Windows 10 - Kaspersky

Post by SebP » Tue Jan 19, 2016 3:32 pm

Hi all,

I tried to install OpenVPN client in Windows 10 Pro x64 but tap install fails all the time.
I tried everything I could:
- install and reinstall OpenVPN client many times, with different vesions,
- install TAP drivers independently,
- change things in windows registry

but nothing worked.
I don't even have a warning popup during installation, to ask me if I want to trust the software (however I had this type of popup on a Windows 10 Home edition !)
In the end, the TAP driver is visible in the Device Manager, but the TAP ethernet adapter is not visible in the Network connections, which is really strange.
Then OpenVPN GUI can't connect to my office VPN (or any VPN anyway).

Can anyone help me with this issue which is making me crazy ?
Thanks
Best regards

In Win8.1 you had to use a special way to install unsigned drivers. Maybe it's the same problem in Win10 ?

Hi MatVPN,

thanks for answering.
I forgot to say that I also tried with deactivation of drivers signature verification...
One more solution that didn't work for me

[SOLVED] TAP virtual adapter in Windows 10

Post by SebP » Thu Jan 21, 2016 3:27 pm

Hi all,

I eventually found the solution. It was due to my antivirus Kaspersky Internet Security which was blocking something.
The solution was:
- update Kaspersky Intenet Security to version 2016 (maybe optional)
- deactivate all Kaspersky protections related to applications: Application control + System watcher + System changes control.
- install OpenVPN GUI

That's it ! The TAP virtual ethernet adapter is now installed and OpenVPN GUI works, my VPN connection is ok !
