How do I get DNS working on Windows?

Post by TheMightyHank » Wed Sep 23, 2015 11:48 pm

I've setup an OpenVPN server on my router and from iOS/android clients everything is working great. I can ping ip/machine names and it's just like I'm inside the network.

However for my windows machines, DNS doesn't work. I can still access machines with IP addresses but not names.

When I installed OpenVPN on windows, it added a TAP-Windows Adapter, (even though I'm using TUN) and I read somewhere that that adapter must be listed first in the connection order (and it is).

Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong?

Micro$oft have deliberately broken W10 networking so that Only Micro$oft VPN Product currently works, which is probably illegal considering Monopolies Laws ..

We are working to find a solution:

Any information you can offer is appreciated.

If you want to use OpenVPN on W10 and have DNS work only over OpenVPN (to avoid DNS leak) the best answer currently, is to enforce firewall rules to block local DNS.

Are you talking about the firewall settings on the Windows client?

Bump. I'm not sure what is occurring with this dns leak issue and how to configure my firewall. Not the actual configuration, but rather what I need to configure.
