IP settings for Windows Client

Hello,
I try to connect a OpenVpn windows client to an Ubuntu server. On the server I have set fixed address for all clients, but it seems like the IP addresses for windows client have to be set to certain values to work together with the other clients.
Is this a windows problem?
Is it possible to overcome this issue so I can freely assign fixed IP's to the windows clients within the same /24 sub-net.
