Windows 10 VPN & Adding to Domain

I have a user who broke his previous laptop, went out and bought a Win 10 machine. I VPN just fine. I can ping our domain controllers just fine. When I go to add the new computer to the domain I lose that functionality to ping the DC and the computer fails to join the domain since it can not see them anymore.
Windows 7 this works perfectly fine, so I know it is a 10 issue! Anyone else run into this and resolve it?
