Question: Automating user config updates

Hi,

Can anyone advise me on a strategy for updating user config files automatically?

I have a community of users and from time to time I need to update their config files.
At the moment this requires them to download and place the new config file in the appropriate folder.
I'd like to take the user out of the loop and automate this entire process.

I saw a mention somewhere of using a --route-up script to achieve this but having read the man page I'm not sure how that would work.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
