How to create a new virtual interface using the openvpn service?

I am unable to create a virtual interface when using the openvpn service

Code: Select all

service openvpn start
despite the option in the client.conf file

[...]
dev tun1
[...]
What should be added to my client.conf file to generate a virtual interface?
