Please fix Win32/64bit Tap Tunnel Adapter!!!

Post by PhoenixOrion » Mon Apr 25, 2011 9:58 am

I can't get speeds above 10 mbits as well and all the other people on the internet that can't either. I've been googling this problem it is not merely cosmetic. I've have tested speeds and am looking for a fix. I have a 40mbit a sec. connection I do a speed test without openvpn on speed test servers all over the country and get between 30 to 40mbits downstream. With open vpn I get around 12 max that is because the 10mbit limit is not exact it will only be around 10mbit max. With My step dads computer it is the same. Tap Win32 needs to be rewritten to connect faster. Maybe in linux it is cosmetic but in windows It is its max. I see others saying it is cosmetic I think your being lied to, to protect openvpn from this deficiancy. Don't always believe what your superiors tell you. Let them know this is a problem that needs addressed. Now I have read that people on lans dont't seem to have problems but others mostly seem to have this issue when connecting to the internet. Why would you need a vpn on a lan anyway? In most cases at least. Yeah I need a secure tunnel from my bedroom to the living room wired. Doh! And I've seen don't mind the man behind the curtain or that number doesn't mean anything well something is wrong and coincidently I just happen to max out around this number 1+1=2. Maybe it's not the problem but logically it appears to be. Open vpn maxes out at only 13% of proccessor when recieving data average about 5%. Don't tell me to just disregard the number the proof is in the pudding below. So much pudding oh sweet pudding. I'm going to post this on every forum I can find about open vpn. Please Make Fast And Awesome!!! I have StrongVPN as a service provider and went online and switched it back to pptp and l2tp. Set up l2tp with encryption on and my speed more than tripled I am connecting to the same server in miami as well and I did speed tests so no it is not cosmetic. I was getting 12mbs down and like 7 or 8 up with open vpn. Now with L2tp I am getting 33mbs down and like 11 up. Big difference Please fix your win32 Tap Tunnel Adapter. I belive openvpn is superior in all other areas but the speed is most vital and I know open vpn is capable of this but that tunnel adapter is your achilles heel. Sorry. I tried setting up l2tp on my router but it is not supported in DD-wrt. I had openvpn on my router set up for a while but it was extremly slow compared with on my computer and I have a beefy router linksys wrt610n 480mhz processor 64mb memory I looked at the processor usage and from what I remember I don't think it went over 20% Usage. I believe dd-wrt or openvpn is just not coded very well for router usage with vpn. It would be very nice to be able to run on the router to share the vpn. I set up pptp and it was extremely slow on the router as well and remember I have a beefy router and was handling it well from a processor usage at least. On the router with openvpn and pptp I was only getting 1-3mbs downstream and around 3-6 upstream. With the vpn running from my computer I was getting 12mbs max down openvpn and L2tp 32-36mbs downstream pptp 31-35mbs downstream. I am going to try tomato firmware on my router next and see if that works better I still think though even if it works better I am still going to have the openvpn limit of 10mbs. I need tomato anyway to try L2tp on the router DD-WRT doesn not support L2tp which I think is retarded even though there is a selection for it, it is not fully functionable from what I can tell. My wireless signal is way better though with dd-wrt over the standard firmware I used to only connect to the router at 130mbs now I connect at 300mbs full signal bars :). I have a parabolic signal reflector for router and a dish for my wireless usb stick as well. Found out no tomato for my router. I think I'm going to build my own router with dd-wrt. Similar to the 700 dollar one that sabaitechnologies has.
