This is where we can discuss what we would like to see added or changed in OpenVPN.

OpenVPN Client for iPhone - Wifi network aware

Post by ChilinMichael » Wed Aug 16, 2017 12:33 pm

Hopefully this is the right place, my apologies if not. I have OpenVPN installed and setup through my Netgear NightHawk X4S. Latest OpenVPN client installed on iPhone. I want the ability to have it aware of when I'm on my home Wifi and automatically turn the VPN off when it is connected to that, then automatically turn back on when I leave my home. I looked in IFTTT and around the web, can't see a current way to do that unless I'm wrong? Would love that feature added as I have OpenDNS in the router as well and love the traffic tunneled through there when out but get full speed when I'm home (VPN limits to the 35mbps upload even when home, which that's fine while out but I have 200mbps download at home).

Could you possibly tell me how I'd go about that (automating it)?

Presuming you have a suitable firewall .. with specific Access policies.

With regard to your Wishlist item: Openvpn will probably never take on the responsibility
of determining where you are connecting from because that would mean a massive branch
of code to maintain when there are much better solutions for it already.
