The 7 Minute Server: Build your own VPN

Post by d0325mgray » Sun May 28, 2017 5:45 pm

I recently followed the steps in this book to set up a VPN on AWS. All of the tests pass but when I try to connect to certain sites, it seems to not show the locality of the region I set up the account in (Singapore) but shows it as Seattle. Can anyone explain this?

If I check whatismyip after I connect it shows the SINGAPORE IP address but location as Seattle.

I want to use a service with geographical restrIctions. I have been successful in the past using Astrill, a commercial VPN service. I wanted to try it with my own VPN on AWS with the server region in Singapore. Unfortunately the service I'm trying to use reports the location as Seattle so it blocks access.
